Evaluation
This is the final section of your foundation production! It is worth 20 marks and must answer the questions below. Try not to merely write an essay, the better responses will be a mixture of text and images with some audio/video tasks. EVERYONE must do their evaluation on a blog.
1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
2.How does your media product represent particular social groups?
3.What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
4.Who would be the audience for your media product?
5.How did you attract/address your audience?
6.What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
7.Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
Helpful hints...
Question 1
To answer question 1, you will need to identify how you have used conventions a film opening to create your final product. You may have challenged these codes and need to explain your rationale behind your choices. You need to make sure that you are comparing your product against real media to evidence this – upload examples of products to make your evalution more interesting.
Question 2
To answer question 2, you need to make sure you bring in theories of stereotyping and representation that you have learnt in the TV Drama section of the examination. What theories could you add in here to add weight to your choices?
Question 3
To answer question 3, think about the type of company that might make and distribute your film, concentrate on the genre/cast/appeal. For example, are they British/American? Are they an independent company? Will it have a neiche market or mass appeal? How is it promoted to the public and where might they access it? (Think about cross media – websites/TV/radio?)
Question 4
To answer question 4, detail the target audience of your product – you could do this in a number of ways – draw a typical audience member for your product and scan it in, copy over detail from your research to show how this would conform to their lifestyle. You could pick an atypical audience member and do the same thing. You could include recorded interviews with audience members and post them on the blog and/or detail some audience theory and apply it to your trailer.
Question 5
To answer question 5, you must look at ways that your film opening attracted your audience. Codes and cultural references are very important here. Detail these using stills from the film and annotate how you have done this.
Question 6
Make a list of what you have learned about technologies during your practical work. DV Cameras. i-movie (talk about which tools you have used, what you have learned about the software – strengths/weaknesses), and other technology (photoshop etc). This can be done in bullet points with images uploaded alongside.
Question 7
This is to be done in a 45 second voice/video file. You will work in a pair and record each other; if you would rather not be filmed then you can work alone and complete an audio recording. You must answer the question, so please discuss:
Knowledge about software from prelim task to final
Knowledge about film conventions from prelim to final
Importance of planning and drafting from prelim to final
Importance of feedback from others in helping you create your final ideas.
This needs to be completed by Monday 27th April, you have my lesson on Wednesday and a period 4 on Friday to use the software in school to record/upload what is necessary.

April 1st 2009 URGENT
Good morning Year 12,
I am unwell today and am not in school. That does not mean you get free time I'm afraid. You are in the Macs for a triple this morning, so Mr P will be checking on your progress during Period 3. By the end of today you must have either:
1. Completed your foundation production, turned it into a movie file and handed it into the MEDIA folder or
2. Nearly finished your foundation production, and contacted me below telling me whether you will be finishing it in school on Monday or Tuesday next week - the school gates are only open from 8.45-9.15 so make sure you get here on time 0r
3. Have finished your planning and research sections, (Matt/Joe)
I will see all of you on the first Wednesday back and everyone must have handed in the production and have posted all their planning and research by then.
PROBLEM: the system is overloading becuase of the massive amount of footage on the PCs. Please can you delete/remove any unwanted pieces of digital media but take care to keep the bits that you will want to post into your blog in your evaluation to show progress. It is essential that you do this otherwise the system might crash.
Good luck - if there are any technical difficulties please contact Mr Hill (ICT technician) and if you have any questions I will check this blog mid-morning.

HOMEWORK
By Wednesday 25th March you must have completed the following:
1. All textual analysis needs to be reworked, ensuring correct media terminology has been used. See extra post for an example.
2. All audience research needs to have been written up, transferred into graphs and conclusions made.
3. All explanations of excellent organisation for actors, locations, costumes and props need to be complete and online/emailed to me. H.Blackmore@mangotsfieldschool.org.uk

How do I show excellent organisation?
You must show that you, yourself showed excellent organisational skills. I would start this off by writing a paragraph outlining your contribution to the production process, were you responsible for location research, costumes, equipment, scripting etc? This paragraph is essential as I have to differentiate between team member's contributions.
You must show that you researched and organised the following:
1. actors
2. locations
3. costumes
4. props
You could do this by simply writing a paragraph on each or annotating images from your research.
Try to be creative in your approach.

Foundation Portfolio G321 Video
Research and Planning - 20 marks
You may chose one of the following options to present your Research and Planning:
- A presentation using slideshow software such as Powerpoint;
- A bog or website
- A podcast
- A DVD with extras
- A scrapbook or folder
Within this part of your portfolio you must showthe following in order to achieve a level 4:
• There is excellent research into similar products and a potential target audience.
• There is excellent organisation of actors, locations, costumes or props.
• There is excellent work on shotlists, layouts, drafting, scripting or storyboarding.
• Time management is excellent.
• There is excellent use of digital technology in the presentation.
Each student must produce a separate form of evidence for the examiner.
